Avionics expert Dr K. Radhakrishnan has been appointed the next chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Radhakrishnan, the director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, will succeed Dr G. Madhavan Nair who retires at the end of this month, an ISRO spokesperson said.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times about his new role, Radhakrishnan said: “I look forward to it as it’s very exciting and challenging.”
Radhakrishnan played a “key role” in the Chandrayaan-I moon mission. He was also instrumental in the development of the PSLV launch vehicle.
He said “ISRO is a great team” and he would “gear up” for the challenges ahead.
