Highlight Story

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam, a bachelor who is known for his great love and affection for children, was seen in another avatar on Sunday - advising parents on raising their wards.

“By their perseverance and hard work, by providing right environment and psychological support, parents can change the course of the lives of their children,” Kalam said in New Delhi after releasing ‘Effective Parenting´, a book by noted educationists and Principal of Delhi Public School RK Puram, Shayma Chona.

“Every child is born with potential. It is the job of the parents and teachers to give a direction to him or her.”

Kalam went on to give real-life examples, talking in detail about how Chona raised her daughter Tamanna, who had suffered severe brain damage during delivery but is now leading a normal life and teaching in the DPS Infants’ school.

Chona said her book contains “expressions of a lifetime”. ‘Effective Parenting´ seeks to provide practical tools for parenting and answer all queries of parents based on proven principles as well as current research on growth patterns of boys and girls.

SC Sehgal, Managing Director of Ozone Group of Companies, the publishers of the book, said all proceeds from the sale will go to ‘Tamanna´, the NGO run by Chona.
