In a major breakthrough, the police have identified one of the three motorcyclists who shot Arun Gupta, a south Delhi-based businessman in Kalkaji, a few days ago. One of the eyewitnesses identified the accused from the dossiers that the police brought in from Bulandshahar in UP.
“The eyewitness was shown more than 250 photographs and he pointed to a man who has a criminal case registered against him in Bulandshahar,” said a senior police officer. Police said they were also trying to match the sketches that they have prepared with the photograph of the identified accused. A police team has left for Bulandhshar to trace the accused.
Meanwhile, the motorcycle that was used in the crime was found abandoned in a DDA Park near Bhairon Mandir a day after the murder. The motorcycle had also been stolen from Bulandshahar in UP.
Police said they now believe that the killers may have been hired from Uttar Pradesh. “The accused were provided detailed information about the victim including his daily routine. Arun Gupta was shot dead few metres from his house when he was on his way to office,” said the officer.
The police also questioned the Mittal brothers again on Friday. On Thursday, the police had released the sketches of the three men based on the information provided by some eyewitnesses.
The police said so far they have not been able to access the “will” prepared by Madan Lal Mittal.
They would also be searching Arun Gupta's house to access vital documents into the case.
