A Tihar jail report prepared by a Delhi trial court judge has nailed former Commonwealth Games (CWG) chief Suresh Kalmadi having luxurious days with other high-profile inmates on the jail premises.
In a report to Delhi district and sessions judge, additional sessions judge Brijesh Kumar Garg has given a detailed account of some high-profile prisoners having a gala time during the period of incarceration. On a surprise visit to the jail on June 30, Garg spotted Kalmadi having tea and snacks with the jail superintendent in an air-conditioned room.
Kalmadi, an accused in the CWG scam, is lodged in jail number 4 of Tihar since May. He was arrested for being the mastermind in the timing, scoring and rating scam, causing a loss of R107 crore to the exchequer.
The report said some 2G Spectrum scam accused and other high-profile prisoners were seen strolling in the jail premises and interacting with each other. The judge said it appeared as if everybody was immensely enjoying their stay.
The judge inspected the cells of CWG, 2G Spectrum and NALCO scam accused, which were found unlocked.
The report also talks of Vishal Yadav and Vikas Yadav, who are serving life term for the murder of Nitish Katara. The report said the Yadav brothers could be seen outside their cell beyond the permitted time.
The sources confirmed that Garg prepared the report as an official communication, cumulative of all his observation of activities inside the jail.
