Shakuntala Devi (45) is a distraught woman these days.

Having lost her husband, Nayak Chaman Singh, in the 1999 Kargil War, she is running from pillar to post to save herself and her children’s lives.

The petrol pump that the government allotted her a few years after husband was slain in the line of duty has been attacked and ransacked repeatedly.

Worse still, her requests to ensure safety to herself, two sons and property have fallen on deaf ears of the police and Noida administrative officials.

In her complaint, on the basis of which a case has been registered, she has said if anything happens to her or her family, the police will be responsible.

A native of Ghaziabad, she stays with her two sons in Arawali Apartments under Noida’s Sector 24 police station.

The petrol pump, allotted in 2005, is located in front of Shopprix Mall in Sector 54.

With tears in her eyes, Shakuntala said, “The petrol pump manager, Vijayveer, duped me of lakhs of rupees. He committed many frauds, causing huge loses to me.” On the basis of a case lodged in 2007, the manager was sent to jail.

On Tuesday, Shakuntala was on way to a local court in Noida phase II for hearing, when she was waylaid by two motorcycle-borne persons.

Shakuntala has registered a case with the Sector 24 police station under sections 504 and 506 of the IPC, accusing the two of threatening to kill her.

When contacted, a senior police officer, under whose jurisdiction the matter comes, assured that the matter was being looked into.
