The severely bloated body of a 14-year-old boy was recovered from Ganga canal area in Ghaziabad on Thursday evening. Son of a leading cloth businessman from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Akshay Bansal was allegedly abducted from Meerut last Friday when he was on his way to his coaching classes.
His family had reportedly received ransom calls and was asked to pay Rs 1 crore for his release. The boy was a Class 10 student of St Mary’s Academy, Meerut. The family had registered a complaint with the police after he went missing.
Police said some local people found his body in the canal under Masoori police station area in Ghaziabad.
“We received ransom calls after he was abducted. We informed the police that his friend was in touch with the abductors but they did not investigate,” alleged Alok Bansal, the boy’s uncle who reached Ghaziabad after the body was recovered.
Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police (Rural) KK Asthana said the body was swollen beyond recognition.
“The family members identified the body from the clothes and the ATM card found inside his purse. Whether the child was murdered would be clear after the post-mortem reports,” he said.
Police said the body was found tied to an iron-chain.
