Some good news for Delhiites. Soon, you will be able to know exactly what development work has been taken up in your area under the local area development (LAD) of your member of legislative assembly (MLA) and the amount being spent on it.
Moreover, boards bearing details of each MLA’s fund spending and work will be put up in respective constituencies. All this information will also be available on the Delhi government’s website.
The Central Information Commission (CIC) had directed the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to install boards in each ward/assembly constituency telling people as to how and on what the money under LAD funds was spent.
This was done after Anjali Bhardwaj and 317 other citizens from the Satark Nagarik Sangathan (SNS) complained that details of funds available to the councillors or the elected members of assembly be made available suo moto for public.
“The government has already installed boards in 55 assembly constituencies and the rest (15 more from a total of 70 constituencies) will be in place by September end,” officials said.
Once the boards are installed, the government will bring out a detailed advertisement with all details in pursuance of CIC order of February 10.
“However, we also plan to bring out a booklet for each assembly constituency. The booklet costing R10 will be available at the offices of all SDMs, deputy commissioners (revenue), urban development headquarters and also at MCD zonal offices,” said SKS Yadav, Delhi’s additional secretary, department of urban development.
MCD has claimed that it has already installed similar boards for each of its councillors.
Information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi and Bhardwaj have been diligently pursuing the matter, prompting the authorities to come up with these boards that form part of the suo moto declarations under the RTI Act.
