The AAP wrote to the Delhi lieutenant governor on Wednesday, demanding that he and anti-corruption bureau chief MK Meena should be made “co-accused” in four cases related to alleged scams during former chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s tenure.

This is the latest in a series of confrontations between Najeeb Jung and the Aam Aadmi Party government on a host of issues, including appointments and role of police in the national capital.

The legislators of the Aam Aadmi Party put forward their demand two days after the ACB filed a complaint against their leader and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Dikshit in the Rs 400 crore water tanker scam of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

The ACB registered an FIR in the scam following complaints from DJB chief Kapil Mishra and BJP leader Vijender Gupta. Meena also said Kejriwal and Dikshit may be questioned in connection with the scam.

Kejriwal on Tuesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the lodging of the FIR linking the AAP government to the multi-crore water tanker scam, alleging it was done at the PM’s behest and asserted that such “coercive” methods would not “scare” him or his party into silence.

The 12 MLAs, who went to Raj Niwas, the L-G’s residence, around 11.30am with the demands, said that Jung refused to meet them so they had to submit the letter to his office.

The AAP alleged that Jung has been protecting Dikshit through his inaction in the case, which was initiated during their party’s 49-day rule after which President’s rule was imposed in Delhi.

“You have been close to Smt Sonia Gandhi and Smt Sheila Dikshit. Smt Gandhi first made you the vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia then you got appointed as the L-G of Delhi. You were bought at a time when Sheila Dikshit was facing serious allegations in the CNG fitness scam. You were brought to protect Smt Dikshit and close all inquiries against her,” a letter signed by AAP MLA Rajendra Pal Gautam said.

“Shri Meena, imposed by the Union government as ACB chief, has also colluded with you in this criminal activity. Kindly forward my letter to ACB with a direction that Shri Meena and yourself should be made co-accused in these four FIRs,” he said.

These FIRs that were lodged in 2014 and include those related to the prices of natural gas from the KG basin and street light purchase scam during the Commonwealth Games of 2010 in which Dikshit’s role came under the scanner.

AAP’s Somnath Bharati claimed that the MLAs were frisked “like a terrorist” and were not given an appointment with Jung though he was present inside the Raj Niwas premises.

“L-G did not meet us. We had sent a request yesterday via SMS. He was duty-bound to meet MLAs. We were frisked as if we were terrorists. He preferred to have lunch than meet us. His secretary received our complaints and we were told that LG will look into it,” Bharati said.

He added that the party has also approached Delhi assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel demanding that the cases be forwarded to the House Committee on petitions, which he said has the power to summon “even the LG”.

Jung’s office, however, said that the MLAs did not have an appointment to meet him.

“There is a process to seek an appointment with the L-G. L-G’s meeting plans are scheduled a day in advance. Despite the MLAs not having an appointment, MLAs were heard and their written memorandum received,” an official at the L-G office said.

On his part, Jung asked the MLAs to follow up with ACB regarding their complaint.

“It’s a matter with the ACB. They have been advised to go and seek inquiries about the case status there,” the official added.
