Three months before the Commonwealth Games get underway, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Tejendra Khanna gave a go-ahead to paint lanes along the central verge of several arterial roads as dedicated lanes.

Marked along several main roads that lead to Games venues and other important places, the painted and dedicated lanes would exclusively cater to athletes and delegates during the Games.

The decision was taken in the second meeting of the inter-agency core group on micro planning for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games.

The lieutenant governor also reviewed the ‘transportation sub-plan for the opening day’, along with a lane reservation plan for the Games.

The committee, which included representatives of the Delhi police, the organising committee and other stakeholders like the Municipal Corporation of Delhi

(MCD), New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Public Works Department (PWD), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),

also discussed the detailed transport and traffic circulation plan for spectators, special visitors, VIPs, media and performing artists, a statement issued by the Lieutenant Governor’s office said.

“The entry/exit points and the parking of vehicles was discussed at length and streamlined after discussions and deliberations by all the stakeholders present,” the statement added.
