lajpat nagar murder

Despite the fact that he used to live alone, Vijay Sareen, 73, did not care to register himself with the Delhi Police’s senior citizens cell.

To top it all, he hired a domestic help without getting him verified by the police. The senior citizen had to pay with his life for these mistakes.

Police said he was smothered to death by Harish, his Nepali servant, who was recommended by a local cleaner.

Sareen’s body was found on the floor of the bedroom of his rented flat in the posh Lajpat Nagar-I, D-block.

His hands and legs had been tied and the killer(s) had wrapped cellophane tape around his mouth and nose. He apparently died of asphyxiation.

Sareen had engaged Harish barely three months ago.

Police said Harish, along with his friends, murdered his employer with the motive of robbery. Sareen’s mobile phone is also missing among other valuables.

The victim is survived by his only daughter, who is married and lives in Dwarka. She used to pay Sareen’s house rent.

The incident came to light around 11.30am when the victim’s maid, Rani, came to the house.

She repeatedly rang the door bell repeatedly but when Sareen did not reply, she went to the adjacent house assuming that he was still sleeping.

“I became suspicious after Satya, another worker at Sareen’s residence, said he was not answering the door bell. We informed the neighbours who went to the back of the house and found the back door open. Sareen was found dead in his bedroom,” Rani told HT. A neighbour called the police.

“We have got the photograph of the victim’s Nepali servant and our teams are raiding his possible hideouts,”said Ajay Chaudhry, additional CP (southeast).
