Salman Khurshid on Wednesday assumed charge as India's new law minister and listed legislations on acquisition of farmers' lands and the anti-corruption lokpal as his top priorities.
“The land acquisition bill is of top priority,” Khurshid, who was on Tuesday shifted from the corporate affairs ministry to law, told reporters here soon after taking up his new assignment.
He said the anti-graft lokpal (ombudsman) legislation was an equal priority for the government.
“The lokpal bill is going to be an important, a very high priority (area) which we have promised to the country and other political parties. Together we have to bring an effective and strong lokpal bill,” he said.
He also listed bills ensuring food security, curbing communal violence and judicial accountability as being important for the government.
