Delhi government’s revenue department has lodged an FIR against four persons, allegedly a part of the builder mafia which had duped buyers by selling off agricultural land. They had claimed to have all the requisite permissions.

According to the government, the mafia was planning to construct multi-storied flats in a three-acre near GT Karnal Road. Sources have put the value of the land at R7 crore.

“We will be running similar campaigns against the builder mafia. Directions have been issued to our staff to take action against all kinds of encroachment and land-grabbing,” said Vijay Dev, divisional commissioner of Delhi government.

The SDM of Narela district BM Mishra had received information about this particular case and was informed that the builders had started paving roads and had made brick boundaries. He conducted an inspection, following which the FIR was lodged in Swaroop Nagar police station.

“Under section 133 Criminal Procedure Court, I have issued directions to the MCD, Delhi Police, SDM and DDA to take action against illegal construction and encroachment,” said Amit Singla, deputy commissioner of northwest district.

“These builders had sold off these plots to the public on the pretext that these plots will get regularised. The amount of fraud could run into several crores,” said a senior Delhi government official.
