The Delhi Police have arrested a 27-year-old man who used to steal laptops, mobile phones and other accessories from boys' hostels in South extension. The police have recovered 12 laptops, a tab, two wrist watches and 11 mobile phones from the accused.
During interrogation, Satyajeet Kumar Singh, a graduate, told the police that he came to Delhi last year looking for a job.
"Initially, Singh worked with a mobile service provider as a customer care executive. He left the job and joined a chemist shop in Arjun Nagar, Kotla Mubarakpur," Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.
In the early morning hours, the accused used to conduct a recce of the areas in South Extension, Kotla Mubarakpur, Arjun Nagar, Amrit Nagar and Pillanji to identify targets.
"He targeted those students, who generally left the doors of their hostel rooms open. After stealing laptops, mobile phones and other valuable articles, Singh would give them to his friends," the DCP added.
On October 25, the accused was stopped for checking while he was carrying a laptop, the police said.
"The police enquired about his movements in the area but Singh could not give any satisfactory reply. Also, he did not say anything about the laptop that was in his possession."
During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to have stolen the laptop from a house in Udaichand Park, in Kotla Mubarakpur area," she further said.
