Licence sent to wrong address

Delhi transport office

Anjali Mathur (30)

Housewife, GTB Enclave

When Anjali lost her driving licence, she thought getting a duplicate one would be an uphill task. She dreaded going back to the crowded transport office, running from one counter to the other to submit forms and paying a tout to get verifications done.

She was in for a major surprise when she managed to complete the formalities in a single day – and that too without a tout.

But little did she know that it was just the beginning of her problems.

Two months hence, her licence is yet to reach her residence. Instead of handing over the licence to the applicant, the transport department now sends it to the applicant's address through speed post.

Though Anjali lives in GTB Enclave in East Delhi, the department sent the licence to Rohini in North West Delhi – a wrong address.

"When we checked with the transport department, they informed that the licence has already been dispatched. Postal department officials say the licence has been delivered at Rohini. I am running from one office to the other but to no avail,, said Anjali.

Anjali said she has collected papers and records from the postal department and submitted them to the transport office. Both the departments are passing the buck to each other but not ready to trace the licence.

"Sometimes I feel, did I make a mistake by not availing the services of a tout?, she said.
