Theft of a USA-made pistol along with 11 live cartridges from a showroom in central Delhi’s Connaught Place area has sent the police of New Delhi district into a tizzy.
The incident was reported from a shop in the Regal building where burglars managed to broke in at Ganga Ram & Sons, a garment showroom, on the intervening night of November 15-16.
The police said items worth Rs 20 lakh including Rs 10 lakh in cash are missing from the shop apart from the licensed pistol. “The shop number 14 at the Regal building has two firms — one is a textile house and another Ganga Ram & Sons. The owner of the textile house, Ashok Adhlakha — a resident of Gurgaon, had left for his house after locking the shop at 7.45 pm on November 15,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.
In his complaint, Adhlakha told the police that he came at 10 am on November 16 and found that the lock of the shutter was tampered. “He found the shop ransacked and the cash box was lying on the floor when he entered the shop. Then he went to the second firm and found that it also ransacked,” the officer added, saying, “He immediately made a PCR call.”
From Adhlakha’s textile house, Rs 6.6 lakh in cash was missing. Since the burglary was reported from posh Connaught Place area and a sophisticated pistol is missing, police are on its toes.
“Theft of a pistol is of major concern for us as it can be misused. We have taken the finger prints from the spot and a case of burglary has been registered at the Connaught Place police station,” the officer added.
Further investigations are on in the case and police are also scanning the CCTV footages of the cameras located at the nearby intersections.
