The woman, who is a divorcee, alleged that in June 2010 Maida befriended her through a matrimonial website, where he later proposed her for marriage, a senior police officer said. The police are also trying to find out if Maida has fooled any other woman using the marriage trick.

“We have learnt that Maida's parents are settled in Indore and he visits them regularly. Issuing an LOC against him will help us nab him whenever he comes to India,” said a senior investigating officer.

The woman, in her complaint, informed the police that after meeting him through a matrimonial portal, they became friends and started chatting regularly. After some time, Maida proposed her for marriage to which she agreed. In 2012, he came to India and the duo solemnised their marriage in a church in Malviya Nagar, police said.

“After their marriage, Maida took R5 lakh from the woman for arranging her visa and other documents so that she can go to London with him. He also kept all her jewellery worth over

Rs 1 lakh. But once he reached London, she said he started avoiding taking her calls after which she grew suspicious of his intentions,” said a police officer.

In order to clear her doubts about her 'NRI husband', the woman created her own fake profile on the same matrimonial website where she had met him and started chatting with him. After a few days, she found out that Maida started becoming friendly with the woman she was pretending to be.

Devastated and cheated, the woman then decided to filed a case against him, police said.
