If you lose your wallet at the Qutab Minar Metro station, lodging an FIR can really be a painful experience. The nearest police station, at Kashmere Gate, is more than 20 kilometres from the Metro line.
The single-room police station, near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal, is responsible for both the Qutab Minar-Jehangirpuri line and the newly-opened Central Secretariat-Badarpur line.
The station is the only place where you can go to file a complaint or register a non-cognizable report if you lose important papers in the Metro.
"We have asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for space at the Qutab Minar and Kalkaji metro stations. We are still to hear from them," said Bhairon Singh Gurjar, additional DCP (crime and railways).
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police runs eight police stations to track complaints generated on Metro's route.
"On an average, we get 700-800 cases in a year reported from all the police stations handling the Metro. Eighty per cent cases are that of theft," said an officer.
In January last year, Delhi Police had sent a proposal to the DMRC seeking permission for five more police stations at IGIA, Yamuna Bank, Peeragarhi, Qutab Minar and Lajpat Nagar.
"We don't have space for our officers," said a senior officer.
DMRC claims they have allotted lands for stations.
"We have already allotted land at Kalkaji, Yamuna Bank and Qutab Minar," said a DMRC spokesperson.
