Animal lovers of the city unite! Come this Sunday (December 6) and Jantar Mantar will see a peaceful vigil in support of animal rights organised by a group of concerned citizens at 4 pm. Aparna Karthik, 27, resident of Hauz Khas and a volunteer with an animal shelter has founded Roar For Animals, the group that will spearhead this march. “There will be no sentimentalist sloganeering. The idea started with the mass poisoning of dogs in Nizammuddin this October. Residents were concerned. Animals are sent to NGOs but end up in slaughterhouses. The main objective that came about was that people who love animals but don’t know what to do about it. We’re clear that we want no branding or NGOs getting mileage out of this.”
The group proposes to hand out flyers with information about animal rights, phone numbers of relevant shelters and a plea that concerned people should stand up and raise a voice if they witness cruelty to animals.
