A week in jail for allegedly stealing two gold chains, a watch and a mobile phone is the last thing that one would expect from the son of a sub divisional magistrate (SDM).

Ravi Kumar, son of the SDM, Preet Vihar, was released on Monday after Additional Sessions Judge Mahavir Singhal granted him bail. He was arrested on July 31 along with his three friends for allegedly stealing a watch, gold chains and a mobile phone of a dhaba owner after he refused to serve them food for free.

Kumar is a student of Bachelor of Hotel Management at Indraprastha University. His counsel Aman Sareen, however, denied the allegation saying he was being framed because of a personal rivalry.

As per the FIR registered against him at Mayur Vihar police station on the complaint of one Rajender, on the night of July 31 the accused persons (four) came in a Santro car. Rajender was at the dhaba with his son Himanshu (14).

The complaint says two boys came and asked for food and a cold drink. Himanshu compiled with their order. However, when he saw them leaving he demanded money from them. The boys then started abusing and manhandling Himanshu. It is alleged that when Rajender intervened and inquired as to why they are abusing and beating his son, they abused him as well. They then turned the car and came near his dhaba. One of the boys then threw red chilli powder in his eyes.

Rajender later found his two gold chains; one Timex watch and one Motorola mobile phone were missing.
