A 22-year-old maid, who was working at the house of an elderly female doctor, has gone missing with cash and jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh since last week. Her employer lives in Greater Kailash-III.

The matter came to the notice of the CR Park police on Sunday after the doctor Madan (75), who goes by her surname, lodged a complaint. The maid has been identified as Varsha alias Mamta, a native of east Midnapur, West Bengal.

A senior police officer said Mamta had been hired nearly one-and-half months ago. On the night of November 10, she had told Madan that her mother was ill and that she wanted to see her.

“The doctor granted her the leave. The next early morning, Mamta left for her hometown. Two days later, Madan opened the almirah of her bedroom and found Rs 4 lakh in cash and some gold jewellery worth over Rs 1 lakh missing,” said the senior officer. “A team has been sent to Mamta’s residential address. Efforts are on to nab her,” the officer added.
