A 20-year-old maid suffered a cervical bone fracture after her employers allegedly beat her up with a wooden bat when she refused to do the laundry due to severe neck pain at west Delhi's Rajouri Garden on Sunday night, police said.
The maid, who hails from Jharkhand, has been admitted to a hospital.
The victim was sent to one Amit Khurana's J-block residence in the west Delhi locality about a year-and-a-half ago by a placement agency.
She was allegedly beaten up when she asked to be excused from doing the laundry because of a severe pain in the neck.
“We received a call around 12:30am last night about a fight at the said residence,” said V. Renganathan, additional CP (west).
One of the victim's relatives, whom she had contacted after allegedly being assaulted by the Khuranas, had made the call and told them that he was rushing her to the Trauma Centre at AIIMS.
Later, the police was told that she was at the RML Hospital.
“But her relative failed to get her admitted there too due to lack of space and she was finally taken to the Safdurjung Hospital where she was scanned for a broken cervical bone,” said a senior police officer. The police said it would record the victim's statement and register a case.
