A 16-year-old girl, who was being assaulted both sexually and physically by her father after her mother left home some years ago, was rescued from her house in central Delhi's Prasad Nagar by a team of the Delhi Police on Saturday.
Police also arrested the victim's father who has a criminal background and had come out of jail recently.
According to police, the accused had been sexually assaulting his daughter and was also subjecting her to unnatural sex. He used to inflict stab wounds on different parts of her body whenever she refused to his advances, a police officer said.
While the accused was sent to judicial custody, the victim was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which sent her to a rehabilitation centre where she is undergoing counselling. The medical examination of the victim confirmed sexual abuse after which her father was booked under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the senior officer, the incident came to light after a woman, who is said to be the stepmother of the victim, approached the police and requested them to rescue her.
Realising the seriousness of the matter, the local police immediately swung into action and rescued the girl from her house.
The minor girl told the police that her father subjected her to cruelty and assaulted her both sexually and physically.
The only time she could live out of fear was when police arrested his father in a criminal case and he had to stay in jail for some months.
He resumed his cruelty after coming back from jail, added the officer.
