Man commits suicide after killing wife, daughter in Capital

delhi Updated: Sep 30, 2009 18:49 IST

A man losing his job because of recession and suffering from depression allegedly committed suicide after strangling his wife and feeding his 11-year-old daughter with poisonous food in the national capital on Wednesday.

Arvind (38) allegedly strangled his wife Mamta (35) and later fed poison-laced food to his daughter Abishi at his residence in south Delhi's Mahipalpur Extension, a senior police official said.

There was ligature marks on the neck of Mamta indicating that she was strangled.

All of them were rushed to a nearby hospital where the couple and the daughter were declared brought dead.

The man, who lost his job in Vishal Mega Mart in Noida a year ago, then consumed poison.

The daughter has recently returned from her school hostel in Mount Abu while his wife had come back from her parental house about two months ago.

"He was under depression due to his unemployed status and this could have led to the murders and suicide. Another reason could be that the couple was not in good terms as the wife had returned to him only after a long stay at her parental house," the official said.

A rope was found near Mamta's body while some poisonous tablets were recovered from the residence, the official said. A suicide note was also recovered from him.

The bodies have been sent for post mortem, the official said adding a case has been registered.
