A 23-year-old man was arrested by the police from outer Delhi’s Kirari on Thursday for allegedly slashing a 16-year-old girl’s face with a blade. The accused has been arrested.

Initial interrogation revealed that the accused took the step after the victim refused to give him her sister’s mobile number.

Police officials said that the victim escaped with comparatively minor injuries and was soon discharged from the hospital after first-aid. The accused managed to give the bystanders a slip, but was subsequently arrested by the police.

“The accused, and the victim’s 22-year-old sister worked together at a factory in Mundka and while Saurabh made several advances, she did not show any interest in him,” said a police official.

Police officials said that after being rejected, the accused started following the victim’s sister on her way back home.

Saurabh had lost touch with the victim’s sister as she quit her job a few weeks ago. Interrogation revealed that Saurabh tried to obtain the girl’s phone number from her family members unsuccessfully.

“He revisited the victim’s house on Thursday evening and openly sought her phone number, but was turned away by family members,” said a police official.

However, rather than returning home, he waited near the victim’s house, intercepted her midway and asked her for her sister’s number. When the girl refused, Saurabh attacked her.

“He allegedly attacked her with a blade,” said a police official.
