The Bus Rapid Transit System corridor once again proved fatal for a youth who was killed when the car he was in collided with a pole early on Monday.

The incident took place around 1:15 am. The deceased, Mohan Gupta (22), a chauffer with a travel agency was going to his office after collecting a payment from Nizamuddin. Three of his friends were also injured in the incident. The police said the driver was not under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred.

What happened?

According to police, Mohan was in a Toyota Qualis and was going to his office in Dakshinpuri after picking up a payment from Nizamuddin. His friend, Vivek Kumar (22), also a driver was driving the car. Mohan worked with Priya Tours and Travel, a travel agency in Dakshinpuri.

His employer, Bharat Kumar Gupta, said, “Mohan had gone with his friend. Along the way he picked up three more friends Rahul Singh (18), Kaalu (15) and Deepak, a part-time driver. They were not drunk.”

According to police, while they were on the BRT Corridor on the Moolchand flyover, Vivek lost control of the car and hit a pole and then the divider, which was in front of the bus stand on the corridor.

The impact of the collision was such that the front passenger seat side of the car was badly damaged. Mohan, sitting there, died on the spot.

The police said a bystander called the PCR and Mohan was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared brought dead. However, all his friends escaped with minor injuries.

According to Mohan’s friends, his parents were planning to get him married soon. “He said his mother had decided to marry him. He had been working for me for the last three years,” added Gupta.

His friends informed Mohan’s family members about the incident at around 1:33 am.

The police said that they have registered a case of negligence against the driver and are investigating the matter.
