A 32-year-old man arrested for faking his murder to implicate his wife and her relatives.

Interestingly, his wife and her relatives are currently in jail and facing trial of his murder. The man, identified as Sohan Lal — a resident of Palwal in Haryana — had suspected his wife of having relationship with her relative and decided to frame them in his murder case.

To prove he is dead, Sohan identified a man of his age, built and height. He then killed him and dumped his body in a canal.

“Sohan and his friend Chandan found a heavily drunk man lying under Bata Chowk flyover in Faridabad. Finding his resemblance with Sohan, they decided to kill him. They put him in their car and drove away to Palwal. On the way near Palwal canal they strangulated him and Sohan Lal planted his purse having his PAN card and other identification documents in the pocket of the body and threw it in the canal,” said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime).

Sohan had suspicion that his wife Lakshmi was having illicit relationship with one Sonu. He also made his father Ganga Ram and brother Sanjay, his co-conspirators and they agreed to identify body as that of Sohan.

On March 22, the decomposed body was found in the canal and was identified as Sohan Lal on the basis of the recovery of PAN card.

Later, a case of murder and destruction of evidence was registered at Palwal Camp police station and Sohan’s wife Lakshmi, brother-in-law Jal Singh and Inder Singh, and father of Sonu were arrested.

After the murder, Sohan Lal eloped with Sonu’s sister and they were living in Badarpur. Sohan had married Lakshmi in 2002 and has two children. He is a taxi driver in a computer manufacturing company.
