The Delhi High Court on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on a man for posting on a social networking site "objectionable" photographs and the telephone number of a woman who had studied along with him in the school. The court imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 while quashing a criminal case registered against the man under the Information Technology Act.
The judge quashed the case against the man on a joint plea by the accused and the victim.
The case was allowed to be quashed after the counsel for Delhi Police, which had registered it, told the court that both the man and the woman had settled the issue out of court for the sake of peaceful family life.
According to the FIR, lodged with the Economic Offence Wing of Delhi Police, the woman, who got married and is now based in Mumbai, had alleged her profile along with the mobile number has been made public on a social network site and she had been getting mischievous calls as well as SMS.
As per the prosecution, the woman's entire profile was displayed by the man who happened to have an affair with her while studying with her in a reputed school here.
