In a bizarre incident, a man allegedly fired at his wife leaving her critically injured just because she was not delivering a baby boy, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred in Sarai Kwaja in the early hours of Friday, when the man identified as Manoj allegedly shot at his wife Sunita, leaving her profusely bleeding — later rushed to a private hospital. The couple has three daughters.

At the time of the incident, the victim's brother, Bosco, was also present in the house. According to the police, he was drunk when the incident occurred.

"We have arrested Manoj, a resident of Nacholi village in Faridabad for the crime," said Ratan Deep, SHO, Sarai Kwaja Police Station.

Deep added, "The accused was living in one of the houses of his brother-in-law in Deepawali Enclave in Sarai Kwaja area where the incident took place."

"During the preliminary investigation, it has come to our knowledge that the accused was fed up of his wife - a resident of Assam whom he married eight years ago - for not delivering a baby boy," police officials said, adding, "the couple has three daughters and the victim had recently under-gone abortion when they knew the fourth one was also a girl."

A case has been registered and investigation is on, the SHO added.
