A father was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old daughter.
A city court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on convict Sanjay Yadav in the four-year-old case. It directed the Delhi Commission for Women to prepare a rehabilitation plan for the girl who is a minor, as nobody from her family was ready to take her responsibility.
Noting that her mother has passed away, Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal said: “The court cannot sit as a mute spectator in such cases, where not only a minor girl has been ravished, but at the same time the entire conscience of the society has been shaken.”
The victim has been living at a shelter for four years.
“The convict has committed the most gory act of raping his own daughter for whom he was the protector as well as the provider,” said the judge. “Such a ghastly act is against all accepted norms of a human behaviour and civilized society.”
The court has asked the commission to come up with a constructive rehabilitation plan to provide her with proper educational and vocational skills and help her stand on her own feet and meet the challenges of life in future.
Yadav was in judicial custody since November 27, 2005, when he was arrested following an FIR lodged by the girl. She had alleged that he was raping her for five months.
