Man hacks wife to death with axe

A 57-year-old medical attendant hacked his wife to death with an axe in Palam area of southwest Delhi on Saturday afternoon.

The police said the accused identified as Bijendra Kumar had come out of jail only two days ago after serving a sentence for attempting to murder his elder brother.

Police said he was an alcoholic and often used to fight with his family members. His youngest son Anil was to get married on May 19.

Kumar fled after the incident. Police said he first attacked his wife Shyamvati’s hand and then hacked her neck at their house in Palam.

Kumar, the police said worked as a medical attendant for Palam air force. He came to his house on Saturday afternoon and started scolding his wife over some trivial issue. Soon, the altercation turned ugly and he started beating her, police said.

When she protested, Bijendra took out an axe lying in the house and attacked her. When his elder son came home in the afternoon, he found his mother lying in a pool of blood. He informed the police. The couple has four sons, two of them live in north Delhi. A case of murder has been registered.
