After arresting a small-time stage artist for molesting a 19-year-old social worker of German descent minutes after she stepped out of a south Delhi Metro station last week, the police have filed a chargesheet against the accused at a fast track court on Monday.
The Delhi Police had tracked down and nabbed the accused, a 19-year-old small-time stage artist named Manish Tanwar, from the very spot where he molested the woman within 12 hours.
The victim, who is a resident of Frankfurt, is in the Capital on a work visa and is working for an NGO, police said. She had left the Jangpura Metro station with a friend around 11.43pm on August 8 and had started walking to her rented accommodation nearby when Tanwar intercepted them at the exit, molested her and then fled the scene.
“Tanwar had boarded the Metro from the Chawri Bazar station and had started followed the victim and her friend who had gotten off at Jangpura,” said an officer, adding that the victim stays in a rented accommodation in the nearby Nizamuddin area.
After the molestation, the victim and her friend made a call to the police control room. They were escorted to the Hazrat Nizamuddin Police Station where a case of molestation was lodged.
“We procured the CCTV footage of the area from the Metro station. Once we had his description and were able to gather that he probably resided somewhere in the same area, he was nabbed from the same spot when he reached the Metro station on the afternoon of August 9,” the police officer said.
Tanwar is a resident of Bhogal and has no previous criminal involvement.
The victim identified Tanwar as soon as she saw him. “We have recorded her statement and have registered a case under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Act (CrPC),” the police officer said.
The hearing in the case will begin from Tuesday. “We have written to the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office on the matter and are hopeful that the case will be disposed off soon,” the officer added.
