A 32-year-old mentally challenged man was allegedly beaten to death by a couple in west Delhi after the victim laughed at them.
The accused got enraged while they were trying to pick up some eggs, that had fallen off their cart, police said.
When the victim, Jai Prakash Pahuja, saw the couple losing their cool, he is reported to have offered them a cold drink to pacify them.
The accused, identified as Jasbir Singh, 45 and his wife Sunderjeet Kaur, 38, instead picked up a brick lying nearby and hit Singh on his head.
He died of head injuries later in the day, police said.
The incident was reported on Thursday night in the Chander Vihar area of Nihar Vihar.
"A case of culpable homicide has been registered against the accused," said V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (west).
"Pahuja was repeatedly hit with a brick on his head outside his home when he laughed at his neighbours, who owned an egg cart. As one of the wheels of the egg cart got stuck in a pothole, Pahuja started laughing. This enraged the couple, who then hit him on his head with a brick," Renganathan said.
Pahuja was then rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
According to Gyan Chand Pahuja, father of the victim, "My son offered Jasbir Singh a cold drink, which further annoyed him," the Pahuja said.
"He then picked up some bricks and started attacking my son. In the mean time, Singh's wife also began beating my son," he added.
During interrogation, he said, Singh told police that he got angry when Pahuja began laughing at him and that's why hit him with a brick.
