A 33-year-old man was attacked with wooden sticks and killed in central Delhi’s Anand Parbat area on Sunday night. All for splashing rain water on two drunk men who were passing by when he was enjoying the late night showers.
Police said the attackers brutally beat up Radhey Shyam in front of his father, near their house. The attackers, Shashi Bhushan, 32, and Pankaj, 30, were arrested on Monday. Both of them are residents of Anand Parbat.
Parmaditya, deputy commissioner of police (central), said the murder came to their notice around 10.30 pm after the police control room received a call regarding a quarrel in Gali number 4, industrial area in Anand Parbat. A police team reached the area and learnt that a man, Radhey Shyam, has been taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital after suffering injuries.
“Our team reached the hospital where doctors said that Shyam had succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Accordingly, a murder case was registered and investigation was taken up,” said Parmaditya.
A senior investigating officer said Shyam was playing in the late night rain as his father stood nearby. The officer said Radhey Shyam was jumping with joy in a puddle of water when it was splashed on the two passersby on a two-wheeler.
The duo stopped their two-wheeler and picked up an argument with Shyam. Their altercation soon turned into a fight during which the two repeatedly attacked him with wooden sticks on his head. His father rushed to rescue him and pleaded the attackers to spare his son. However, the two continued attacking him till he collapsed on the street and started bleeding profusely. The attackers fled the crime scene.
“We identified the attackers during probe and arrested them. They told us that after finishing work, they consumed alcohol and were returning home when they entered into a fight with Shyam,” the officer said.
