Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for strangling his eight-month pregnant wife. He was married for the last six years.
Police said the daily wager, who is a school dropout, wanted to marry again and had had arguments with his wife over this several times.
Latif had murdered his wife on Wednesday but had dressed up the crime scene.
He had tied himself up and had called for help claiming robbers killed his wife and tied him up. The couple had had an argument on the same topic on Wednesday night.
Latif and Fatima had tied the knot in 2006 and were living in Deen Pur village in Chhawla in southwest Delhi.
"To mislead his family members, Latif tied himself up and threw household articles around in his room to suggest that his wife was murdered by unknown people during a robbery attempt," AK Ojha, additional CP (southwest) said.
It was the statement of victim's father that made police suspicious about Latif.
Fatima's father told the police that Latif could have been involved as the couple used to argue a lot.
During their investigation, the police came to know that Latif had strained relation with his wife over the issue of marrying another woman.
The police had also informed the local sub-divisional magistrate as the woman had got married six years ago.
In the preliminary observation, doctors said the cause of death was smothering.
"Prima facie it appeared that Latif was dodging the police and was involved in the murder. His contradictory statements were exposed and finally he broke down. He confessed to killing his wife and concocted a story," Ojha added.
