Bara Hindu Rao

Four motorcycle-borne men allegedly waylaid a resident of north Delhi's Bara Hindu Rao area, assaulted and shot at him on Saturday night, the police said.

But the police suspect the incident to be stage-managed.

"We were intimated about the incident by the victim, Fakhruddin at 2:30 am," said SS Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (north).

The police said Fakhruddin was having snacks at a roadside stall near his residence when four men on two bikes surrounded him and started assaulting him.

"Atif, Kashif, Rehan and Wasim stay in the same area and their families are not on good terms with that of the victim's since his brother Danish was allegedly gunned down by Atif's gang in July this year," said a senior police officer investigating the incident.

"Fakhruddin, the only witness to his brother's murder, claimed that he was also shot at. But a police team rushed to the spot did not find any cartridge shell in the area," the officer said.

However, the team was sent back to the spot at 4am on the complainant's request and a shell was recovered.

"It seems to be a stage-managed incident because of the enmity existing among different families in the area. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter," Yadav added.
