A man stabbed his nine-months pregnant wife to death, following a heated argument in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri area on Sunday night.
The police said the incident occurred around 9pm when the couple picked up an argument over the husband's joblessness.
The police said the assault was so barbaric that the woman's foetus also suffered stab wounds and died.
The deceased was identified as Vinita, 20. Her husband, Vikrant, 23, called the police after the murder and surrendered. Vikrant, who is pursuing first year BA course through correspondence, has been arrested for the murder, police said.
A senior police officer said the couple got married one and half years ago. Vinita's parents live in Greater Noida and her father Kishan Chand is a farmer. Vikrant's father Ajit is into cable business but he never showed any interest in his father's business and was jobless for quite some time.
"Vikrant told us that his wife used to often taunt him as he was unemployed. He was not interested in his father's business and the couple would quarrel often," said the officer.
On Wednesday night, following a quarrel over the same issue, Vikrant picked up a kitchen knife and violently stabbed Vinita several times in the stomach.
The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. In the meantime, Vikrant was arrested.
Vinita's body was handed over to her family after an autopsy.
