Numericals, derivations, anatomy and equations are all science students preparing for Class 12 board exams can think of right now, with a number of them staying up late at night to make sure their preparations are complete. Teachers give them tips to tackle the question paper.
Physics: Long considered to be the nemesis of most science students, Physics can be tackled if a few things are kept in mind. “Students should practice derivations by writing them down. Students often say they go blank in the examination room. It is usually because they have not practiced derivations on paper before,” said Neha Sharma, who teaches Physics in Bloom Public School, Vasant Kunj. Time management is also of key importance, when it comes to attempting the Physics paper.Teachers suggest that students attempt the five marks questions first since many are not left with time later on and end up losing a lot of marks.
Chemistry: While most students believe that Chemistry is about mugging up reactions, teachers disagree. “It is very important to understand why a particular reaction is taking place the way it has. Without understand the concepts, chemistry becomes very confusing. Application of the concepts is very important,” said Sangita Maliwal, who teaches Chemistry at Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar. “Students usually find the chemistry paper very lengthy, but it is because they spend a lot of time beating around the bush. Precise answers with key equations are important. Also, calculations in numericals can be left for the end as it will save time for students,” she adds.
Biology: A vast syllabus is the biology’s student’s biggest challenge. The topics should be covered in the order of weightage of marks. Also, diagrams and labelling should be practised.
