Upping the ante against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP on Tuesday said he is at best a “glorified caretaker of the post of Prime Ministership” unable to lead from the front.
“Dr Manmohan Singh is at best a glorified caretaker of the Prime Minister’s post keeping it warm for someone else,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, adding there was a need for a leader “who can lead from the front and not one who is a stopgap caretaker.”
Singh is a weak Prime Minister has been confirmed from an “unexpected quarter”, he said apparently referring Priyanka Gandhi’s statement that Rahul has the qualities to become the prime minister.
Prasad sought to know whether Rahul is the real candidate for the top job.
“Is Manmohan Singh being used as a mask so that Rahul Gandhi is not subjected to public scrutiny?” he asked, adding that Congress veterans Arjun Singh and Pranab Mukherjee have already acknowledged that Rahul has the potential to be the prime minister.
“Now even the Prime Minister had to acknowledge and approve of it,” he said.
