Decks have been cleared for approving the National Manufacturing Policy aimed at giving impetus to the manufacturing sector.
The Group of Ministers on Friday resolved the concerns of the environment and labour ministries regarding the policy.
The environment ministry's opposition regarding giving powers of granting environment clearance to an official of National Manufacturing Zone was resolved.
Commence minister Anand Sharma agreed that environment ministry will give approval to category A projects and the state pollution control board to category B projects.
Environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan on her part assured fast tracking the approval process for the special manufacturing zones to be set up under the policy.
On the issues regarding Labour ministry, Sharma agreed that the relevant labour laws will be applicable in case of exit policy for employees in these zones.
The Cabinet had referred the policy to a Group of Ministers headed by Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar after Natarajan and labour ministry expressed reservation over certain clauses in the proposed policy.
The Commerce ministry is expected to table the re-drafted manufacturing policy at the next GoM meeting.
