Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi on Friday launched a month-long sanitation-cum-cleanliness drive from the Gauri Shankar Mandir near Red Fort. All roads leading to Town Hall in Chandni Chowk were cleaned.

Apart from Abbi, those who participated in the drive included deputy mayor Anil Sharma, chairman of MCD's Standing Committee Yogender Chandolia and Leader of the House Subhash Arya. Representatives from traders' association, RWAs and locals were also present.

"The special sanitation drive that was launched today will continue for a month till June 19. Delhiites, especially women, should participate in the drive so that every nookand corner of the city is cleaned, just like they clean their houses," said Abbi.

She further said that all chairpersons of zonal ward committees have also launched the drive in their respective zones simultaneously. "As a part of the drive, all councillors will be out on roads to take part and personally monitor it. Sanitation audit, accountability and result-orientation are the three cornerstones of the drive," she added.

Chandolia said that major departments like those of environment management services, engineering and horticulture have been asked to coordinate among themselves to yield desired results as far as cleanliness of the city is concerned.
