Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi has sought an appointment with the Union home minister to apprise him of the various steps taken by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for providing better civic services to Delhiites.

“Mayor of Delhi, Rajni Abbi has written a letter to the Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram requesting him an early appointment. She drew his attention to allegations made by Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit about maladministration in MCD and asked him to take appropriate action,” said Deep Mathur, director, press and information, MCD.

Abbi further said the civic agency has introduced e-governance in a most effective manner. “We have been given R143 crore by the Delhi government to introduce administrative reforms in MCD. The CM, therefore, has no right to make baseless allegations. MCD’s senior functionaries would like to meet him in person to enable him to make up his mind in a fair and balance way, particularly with regard to allegation about ‘ghost employees’,” Abbi said, labelling the allegations as baseless.

“We have already taken adequate steps to link our pay system with bio-metric attendance. We took the bold initiative to weed out the problems of absenteeism and irregularities in MCD by introducing bio-metric attendance system and linking it to the payroll. It has led to better administration in place of the alleged maladministration. The officials are more compliant, punctual and regular leading to improved level of civic services,” she said.
