MBA caught for making extortion calls to former boss

The Delhi Police crime branch has arrested a 31-year-old MBA graduate for allegedly making Rs 1 crore extortion demand from his former employer, a businessman in Kirti Nagar. The arrested has been identified as Vivek Singh, a resident of Laxmi Bai Nagar in south Delhi .

DCP (crime) Ashok Chand said the victim complained of receiving threat and extortion calls from an unknown person.

“The caller threatened the businessman of eliminating him and his family if his demand was not fulfilled. A deal regarding the delivery of the first installment of Rs 50,000 was struck with the caller. It was decided that the money would be delivered at a kiosk on Jai Singh Road in the New Delhi area. Singh was apprehended there,” he said.

Singh said the businessman was his former boss, who would provide house-keeping services to government departments. Singh worked for the victim for two months.

Man arrested in Faridabad

Meanwhile, a court in Faridabad remanded a man to one day police custody on Tuesday for allegedly making an extortion call to a businessman.

On November 18, the victim, Vinayak Gulati of Sector 14, allegedly received an extortion call of Rs 2 crore. The caller threatened Gulati that his son would be kidnapped if he refused to pay the amount.

Gulati informed the police and an FIR was registered. The accused caller was arrested on Tuesday. Ashwani Kumar, in charge of Sector 14 police post, said the accused has been identified as Atul Kumar of Ajronda in Faridabad . Atul has confessed to the crime. The police have, however, ruled out that Atul has a criminal record.
