MBA student held for stealing in Metro

Two women, including an MBA student, were arrested on Sunday by the crime branch of Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in different Metro-related crimes.

The Kashmere Gate Metro station police arrested 23-year-old Monika Khantwal, an MBA student, for stealing the purses of two women and robbing them off by Rs 70,000.

On February 21, officials said, a woman had reported that her bag had been stolen between Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat Metro stations and R50,000 was withdrawn from her account through her ATM card. A similar complaint was received on March 1 by a woman whose bag was stolen from Rajiv Chowk Metro station and R20,000 were withdrawn from her account.

The Metro Police analysed the CCTV footage and arrested the accused. “A resident of Najafgarh, she is a graduate from Delhi University and is currently pursuing an MBA from Noida. She wanted to buy expensive cell phones and lead a lavish life. And had taken to stealing in the Metro since the past few months,” said Ravindra Singh Yadav, additional CP, crime branch.

Meanwhile, the Rithala Metro station police arrested a woman, identified as Manju, for drugging a woman and stealing her jewellery and mobile phone.

The incident came to light on January 30 when a woman reported that she was drugged while travelling in the Metro from Chandini Chowk station.

Officials said, the victim’s mobile phone was found with a woman named Asha, who confessed that her husband Ashok and two others, including Manju, were involved in the crime.
