The building department of south and central zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) intensified their sealing and demolition drive on Tuesday.
As many as 21 residential properties were either sealed or demolished by the civic agency.
In south zone, major action was taken against unauthorised constructions in areas such as Chhattarpur Enclave, Rajpur Extension, Malviya Nagar, Village Mandi, and Hauz Rani.
“After taking demolition action, the properties were left in uninhabitable condition so that they are not used by the occupants. Most of the properties, which were targeted by us, belong to the builder mafia who construct properties illegally and sell them off to people,” said a senior MCD official.
The south zone’s building department also demolished two farmhouses. Officials said people can visit their office and enquire about the status or authentication of construction of a property.
In south Delhi ‘s Govindpuri, the building department of the central zone took sealing action against nine properties under which 26 floors were sealed.
“We had made plans to seal 25 residential properties in the area, but due to lack of police force we were able to take action against only nine properties. People were living in some of the floors. But we will continue this drive and action will be taken against more illegal constructions,” said a senior MCD official.
