Come Thursday and the hammer men of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be back at work. The civic body is planning a massive demolition drive in the central zone of the city. Many areas of south Delhi will be targeted during the drive.
According to an MCD official, the civic agency has planned a crackdown on illegal constructions in south Delhi, in which commercial as well as residential properties will be targeted. “The drive will begin on Thursday morning. Every kind of illegal construction will be demolished,” said the official.
Last year, massive demolition was carried out in South Extension, C.R. Park, Lajpat Nagar and various other areas in south Delhi.
The MCD on Tuesday also sealed various properties in south Delhi, including a showroom and the 28 shops in Amar Colony and Lajpat Nagar. CTC Plaza in Kilokri was sealed by the civic agency. This is not the first time the property is being sealed. In 2006, the MCD had sealed the building, which was later desealed. Now following the orders of the High Court-appointed Monitoring Committee, the civic agency sealed the property again.
The central zone of the MCD has also collected Rs. 32 crore as conversion charges during a recent drive. The drive was conducted for eight days. MCD officials, till now the Central Zone has collected around Rs.90 crores as conversion charges.
