Ahead of the municipal elections in April this year, the ruling BJP in MCD has agreed in principal to give R12,000 annually to each Resident Welfare Association (RWA) registered in Delhi for managing their daily office expenses.
According to an estimate, nearly 2,000 RWAs are registered in the city.
According to sources, representatives of RWAs had recently asked senior MCD leaders to allocate funds for these organisations and the suggestion was readily accepted by them.
“A delegation of RWAs had requested that MCD should give a fixed amount of R1,000 per month to their associations to meet daily office expenses. The request made by their representatives has been accepted,” sources said.
For this purpose a new account head would be created.
Considering that there are close to 2,000 RWAs working in the city, distributing these funds will put an extra financial burden of R250 lakh on the civic agency.
