The Supreme Court appointed committee has turned down the request of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to permit advertising displays mounted on mobile vans as well as on the rooftops of the buildings.

In a setback to the corporation and other civic agencies the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) has disfavoured the mounted advertisement boards and said it was a traffic hazard.

“It is fallacious to argue that mobile vehicles deployed for the sole purpose of advertisements can be equated with public utility and intermediate public transport vehicles,” read the EPCA’s report. The report has been submitted to the special apex court bench, which is hearing a petition on MCD’s outdoor advertising policy. EPCA had last year given a detailed report favoring the resumption of hoardings in Delhi. EPCA, however, rejected the plea. In their representation before the EPCA, Delhi Police had vehemently opposed the MCD’s move.
