The MCD's Building Department on Thursday demolished nine illegal properties in Sainik Farms, Gautam Nagar, Krishna Park, Khirki and Vasant Vihar.

Officials said builders had illegally constructed the properties and sold them to unsuspecting buyers.

In Khanpur, Khirki and Gautam Nagar, the top two floors of four properties were completely demolished as they were built without permission. In Sainik Farms, illegal extensions were demolished.

After the Lalita Park building collapse in October 2010 that killed more than 70 people, the MCD has been cracking down on illegal constructions from time to time.

In the last seven days, the building department of South zone had targeted unauthorized constructions in 55 properties. In the last one month, as many as 210 properties were targeted.

Officials said the demolition drive has been launched to send a message to unscrupulous builders to abide by rules.

They said the drive will intensify in the coming days.
