To crack a whip on property tax defaulters, the MCD has engaged 1,500 Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs), who will recover house tax from the defaulters. To begin with, notices will first be served to the defaulters.
“We have also launched a special amnesty scheme from today for providing 100% rebate on interest and penalty. The scheme will close on December 31. This would ensure people pay only their actual arrears and not penalties or interests. This will ensure that those who haven’t paid the tax do so now,” said Ved Prakash Gupta, chairman, MCD’s high-powered property tax committee.
The decision was taken following a meeting on Tuesday. Additional commissioner, Janak Digal; assessor and collector, MSA Khan, and field officials from the assessment and collection department were present in the meeting.
In addition to this, it has been decided that each property owner should be given a unique identification code so that the identification of the target group becomes easy. It was also decided in the meeting that all pending mutation cases would be decided in a time-bound
The civic agency has received a number of dishonoured cheques from various zones. There are 906 cases of dishonoured cheques in central zone, of which 705 are still pending. In the Shahdara (south) zone, there have been 1,444 cases of dishonoured cheques, out of which 975 are still pending.
"Hence we decided in the meeting to recover the amount of dishonoured cheques at the earliest," he added.
