Two persons have been arrested for allegedly beating a motor mechanic to death after he had an argument with them over who will buy gol gappas first.

The incident happened in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area on August 4. The duo, Sunil Kumar and Lucky, were arrested on Wednesday. They allegedly beat Irfan to death and dumped his body at a secluded spot.

“On August 4, we got a PCR call about a youth lying unconscious at Kachchi Gali in the area. The team reached the spot and shifted the youth to BJRM Hospital, where he died during treatment. Inquiry shows he was dumped by two motorcyclists,” DCP northwest, Vijay Singh said.

As the identity of the deceased was not known initially, the body was preserved at the mortuary.

During investigation the police received information that a quarrel has taken place near a liquor shop on Burari Road between two groups of motorcyclists over purchasing gol-gappas.

The police later found a bullet motorcycle in a lane. The police team traced the address from the registration number and the bike was found to be of Irfan, the deceased.

CCTV footage around the wine shop was scanned. “The footage showed a quarrel between some youths on the footpath. Posters of the persons involved in the fight were prepared and circulated in the area,” Singh said.

The police received a tip off on August 6 and Sunil was arrested. At his instance, Lucky was arrested on Wednesday.

“Sunil is a waiter and Lucky is a driver. Both of them do not have any past record of crime,” Singh said.
